ABLAZE! is the name for the special outreach movement of our Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS).  The goal is to share the Good News of Jesus with 100 million people worldwide by the year 2017 (the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation).

This past April, LCMS churches in Lincoln were invited to come to Faith to hear more about this movement.  Nebraska District President, Russ Sommerfeld, was the primary presenter.  He shared with those gathered how the LCMS was raising funds for mission work in Nebraska, the U.S. and all over the world.  One of the goals of ABLAZE! is to give back to participating congregations 15% of all funds raised.  The congregation can then use those funds to do outreach work right in their own neighborhood.

Some Faith members who attended that presentation came together to discuss and pray about how Faith could participate with other LCMS churches in this global movement. What came about was the decision to do a 50 Days of ABLAZE campaign in the fall.  What we're asking all Faith families to do is to set aside ONE DOLLAR A DAY for the 50 Days of ABLAZE.  If every family did that together we could potentially raise over $15,000.  It was our belief that each family at Faith could do $1 a day for 50 days.  For many of us that's one pop or cup of coffee or candy bar that we could go without each day to help each Faith family reach their goal.

The plan is to gather the $50 from each Faith family on either Sunday, October 26 or Sunday, November 2.  We're excited about the potential of this effort!  During the 50 days we'll also be talking about what it means to be Christians in mission to our families, neighborhoods, communities, state, country and the world.

Talk with your family members about the goal to set aside $1 a day for 50 Days of ABLAZE!  We'll kick off the event at the first weekend worship services in September.  It's fun to be in mission with you at Faith Lutheran Church & School!
