Education Background:
I received my BA in Middle School Education from Kearney State College, 1985. I have graduate hours from UNL following that (though the only ones good anymore are the ones I took to renew my teaching certificate).
I anticipate working towards my colloquy beginning next summer at Concordia.
Work Experience:
I had an assortment of jobs as a very young person (starting in 5th grade!). I worked bussing tables, waiting tables, pumping gas (and cleaning the rest rooms - I'm pretty sure that was why I was hired!), a summer at the local dairy queen, counter help in the local bakery - all in my hometown of Arapahoe Nebraska. In college, I tutored and waited tables. Once out of college, I tutored Native American students for LPS and later worked as a paraeducator. However, I was sidetracked by the hospitality field - first as a desk clerk, then sales (at the old Clayton House Hotel downtown). In 1989, I moved to the Town House Mini-Suites, eventually became a partner, and had managed for 17 years before we sold the property in the summer of 2006.
PASSIONATE ABOUT:
I guess the first thing I'd answer is our Lord. I know that there is nothing I can do to deserve the love, mercy, and grace we're given. Secondly, my family. I'm so fortunate to have Dan, Caitlin, and Riley. Our church family at Faith and the kids here are incredible. Each day I get to see young people experience God's love and share it with each other. It's such a blessing to be working at Faith!
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
As a first year teacher, I'm deficient in that category (unless you count being a very mature 1st year teacher!). In my previous career, I served as President of the Lincoln Lodging Association and the Nebraska Hotel/Motel Association as well as serving on the Board of the NHMA for many years.
HOBBIES:
Again, not much to talk about. I have zero crafting ability. My spare time is spent following my kids to their events, being a Girl Scout leader, and reading (when I don't fall asleep immediately!)
I love to laugh and to make people laugh. Trivia facts are posted on our bulletin board daily. Silly jokes are frequently told in the classroom as well. I'm terribly clumsy (fall over my own feet). I enjoy trivia game shows and friendly trivia competitions.
FAMILY:
Dan and I were married right after I finished college (May, 1985). We've lived in Lincoln since. Caitlin was born 10-25-93; Riley 11-26-94 (how's that for God's sense of humor!)
